The final post - here are the top 2!
1. 1988 Scanlens NSWRL
I love this set. Its the first set that I fully collected as a kid and every time I see it good memories come flooding back. When i was at school every kid had these cards and lunchtime would be spent trading them. I remember on weekends scrounging around the house collecting 20 cent coins, getting together $2, jumping on my bike and picking up 5 packets at the local corner shop (whats a corner shop i hear the younger generation say). It was also the first year for the Newcastle Knights and for a local kid that was great to be able to collect your local team for the first time. You might think im nuts for having this set as number 1 buts it is my list - not yours!
2. 1966 Scanlens VFL - 'The Flag Set'
The forth series released by Scanlens it was double the size of previous releases and contained players from both the WAFL and VFL. It also contained a couple other firsts - the first puzzle that was put together from the pictures on the back of the card and the first ever insert set which was made up of 14 die cut cards (can you believe they are still using that idea today). Scanlens took the design for these cards from the 1966 Topps Baseball set (albeit with a few changes). Amazingly the original colour transparencies were discovered in 2007 along with 10 unreleased cards. These were eventually released by the AFL X-Men (they were not authorised by the AFL, Select or Scanlens) and are a tough find today.
